7 Easy Ways to Transform Your Balcony

A balcony is a brilliant addition to any building as it helps to bring the outdoors in. Balconies are a great way to gain some outdoor space if you have a small garden or no outside area at all. In this blog, we take a look at some ways to transform your balcony to make it a beautiful outdoor haven.

Make It Green

Add some plants to your balcony to create a natural and beautiful addition to your home. You could grow some of your own herbs and form your own edible garden, or you could opt for some larger bushes, leafy plants or some pretty flowers. You want to make sure that whatever plants you decide to introduce to your balcony, you can look after them. You don’t want to end up with an outdoor space full of brown and dying plants; you want to aim for a luscious and green balcony.

Add Some Furniture

What better way to enjoy your balcony than with some alfresco dining? By introducing some furniture, you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the great outdoors! Depending on what sort of look you are going for, you could go for a sofa set, oozing more comfort and relaxation. However, if you are more interested in outdoor dinners and garden parties, maybe consider a set of table and chairs, that way you have somewhere to host. Adding some furniture will help create a space that is welcoming and a cosy spot to unwind.

Create Some Privacy

Don’t think that you have to deal with any neighbours prying eyes. Consider opting for some frosted glass for your balcony, instead, that way you can block out anyone who is peering over. If you already have your balcony fitted or you can’t change the balustrades, not to worry, you can use some bamboo fencing to add some texture and keep your space private.

Decorate the Walls

A straightforward way to take your balcony from bland to vibrant is by adding some stuff to the walls. You could opt for the more traditional route and hang up a thermometer and pottery work, or you could go a little more creative. Introduce some hanging plants and weather-resistant artwork, and you can create a cosy little haven that connects both the indoors and outdoors.

Light It Up

There is no easier way to transform your balcony than adding some hanging lights. By illuminating your balcony you can enjoy the space both in daylight and at night-time, plus, the lights create a very warm and peaceful atmosphere. With so many different variations of outdoor lights on the market, you will be spoilt for choice on which to pick. We recommend opting for some solar panel lights, that way you can save on electric and still enjoy some twinkly decorations.

Consider Faux Turf

If you are someone who wants the feeling of the outdoors but maybe you don’t have the time for the upkeep, faux turf is the perfect option for you! It is essentially fake grass, and it creates a space that looks natural without the added maintenance to water and take care of it. Not only does it look nice, but it is also soft to stand on, therefore, making your outdoor space that bit more comfortable.

Add Some Shade

Now, we appreciate that it is a rare occasion that the UK enjoys some sunshine, but when it does, it can be helpful to have a little shaded area to retreat too when you get a bit too hot. Adding a parasol to your balcony can help to form a spot of shade and create a space to relax in the cooler temperature. Under the parasol is a great place to put some dining furniture so you can enjoy some alfresco dining in the sunshine, without feeling too hot and bothered.
